Amazon passes 100 mln Prime subscribers

Amazon.com has reached over 100 million subscribers for its Amazon Prime service, CEO Jeff Bezos announced at the company's annual shareholders meeting. Amazon said it added a record number of users last year to Prime, which provides subscribers with free delivery from the e-commerce site and a range of online services such as streaming video and music, storage and e-books.

Prime, available for a monthly or annual fee, was expanded last year to new markets such as Mexico, Singapore and the Netherlands. Prime Now, the two-hour delivery service for groceries, was also expanded to 50 cities worldwide across nine countries.

Bezos also said 2017 was the company's best year yet for hardware sales. Customers bought "tens of millions" of Amazon Echo devices, and the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick with Alexa were the best-selling products across all of Amazon. As usual, Amazon did not release any exact sales figures for the devices.
