Amazon has launched a special version of its Alexa voice technology tailored for hotel rooms and signed an agreement with Marriott International to roll out the service at select properties starting this summer. The new experience, dubbed Alexa for Hospitality, works with voice-controlled Echo devices to enable hotel guests to order room service, control the lights and room temperature, play music, change TV channels and more with their voice alone. Amazon added that the Alexa experience will be customised to each hotel so that guests can ask for specific information such as pool and gym opening times.
The service will initially be available at properties in Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Hotels and Autograph Collection Hotels and by invitation in other hotel chains, all of which will be able to create custom Alexa skills.Amazon said Alexa for Hospitality will soon support the ability for Amazon customers to temporarily connect their account to the Alexa-enabled device in their room. Once connected, guests will be able to play their personal music from services including Amazon Music, Spotify, and Pandora; and listen to audiobooks with Audible. When a guest checks out, Alexa for Hospitality automatically disconnects their Amazon account from the in-room device.
