Amazon rents 335,000 square feet of space in NYC's Hudson Yards

Amazon has signed a lease for 335,000 square feet in Manhattan, at the Hudson Yards on the west side of New York City, the Wall Street Journal reported, saying the premises will house over 1,500 employees. The move comes

amid talk Facebook will be leasing 700,000 square feet at Manhattan’s Farley Building, after also leasing  premises at the Hudson Yards neighbourhood last month. 

For Amazon, the deal comes after failed plans to locate its second headquarters in Long Island City, in Queens.

Facebook in talks to lease 700,000 square feet of space in Manhattan - report

Facebook is in talks to lease a landmark building in Manhattan, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The company hopes to hire 700,000 square feet worth of space at the Farley Building, in New York City. The new space would come on top of Facebook's recent deal to lease 1.5 million square feet at the new Hudson Yards neighborhood, cut last month.

Amazon pulls out of New York City HQ2 plans

Amazon will not build its new headquarters (HQ2) in New York City after all. The company has withdrawn from its project in Long Island City, Queens, saying the idea was to build positive and collaborative relationships with state and local officials and get support over the long term. As this seems to not be the case, it will pursue the plans no longer. Amazon did say it will likely grow teams already present in the city. The company has over 5,000 employees in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island.
