Amazon sells over 4 mln Kindles in December
Amazon.com said its Kindle devices sold over 1 million units a week during December, making them the best-selling items on its site. The Kindle Fire Android tablet was the best-selling, most gifted, and most wished for product across the millions of items available on Amazon.com since its introduction 13 weeks ago. The Kindle has also been the best-selling product on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.es and Amazon.it this holiday season. Bestsellers on the company's mobile phone store included the Motorola Droid Razr 4G from Verizon Wireless, Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G from Sprint and the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G at AT&T. Angry Birds, Tetris and Pandora Internet Radio were the most downloaded apps from Amazon.

Amazon sales up 35%, profits shrink

Amazon.com reported fourth-quarter sales of USD 17.43 billion, up 35 percent from a year earlier. However higher costs meant operating profit fell to USD 260 million from USD 474 million a year earlier, and net profit dropped 58 percent to USD 177 million or 38 cents a share. The worldwide sales of tablets are projected to reach nearly 36 percent of total PC sales or 186 million units by 2015, which is higher than the total worldwide PC sales in 2004, according to a report by Computer Industry Almanac.
