Amazon to join Zigbee Alliance BoD

Amazon will join the Zigbee Alliance's board of directors. Amazon said it looks forward to working with the organisation and its members to contribute to open standards for device interoperability that benefit its mutual customers.  

 

Other companies that joined the organisation include Comcast, Huawei, Ikea, Legrand, Schneider Electric, Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), Somfy, and Samsung SmartThings. Like them, Amazon chose to design and introduce devices based on the Zigbee Alliance’s wireless standards. For instance, Amazon devices including the Echo Plus and new Echo Show feature a built-in smart home hub that easily connects to Zigbee-based light bulbs, door locks, sensors, and more. Now, customers can benefit from Frustration Free Setup and quickly connect new Zigbee products by simply saying “Alexa, discover my devices.”

Dekra providing Zigbee testing at Malaga lab

IoT open standards group the Zigbee Alliance announced that European vehicle inspection company Dekra is now providing Zigbee testing services from its laboratories in Malaga, Spain. In a statement, the industry body said the Malaga lab now supports Zigbee Certification programmes, allowing Zigbee Alliance member companies to carry out tests to ensure wireless devices comply with expected levels of interoperability, security, safety and reliability.

The Zigbee Alliance announced the number of available Zigbee Certified products and Zigbee Compliant Platforms passed the 3,000 milestone. Alexa on over 100 mln devices shipped so far

ON World confirmed that half a billion Zigbee chipsets have been sold to date.
