Amazon sees continued slower growth in Q1 after Q4 sales rise of 20%
Amazon reported revenues up 20 percent from the year before to USD 72.4 billion in the fourth quarter, in line with expectationsbut showing a slowdown from the previous quarter. The quarter is normally one of Amazon’s strongest, buoyed by the December holiday season. Meanwhile, profit figures were strong: the operating profit increased to USD 3.8 billion from 2.1 billion the year earlier while the net profit almost doubled to USD 3.0 billion or USD 6.04 per diluted share, from 1.9 billion and 3.75 per share. 

Looking forward towards the first quarter, Amazon said it expects even slower growth, with revenues seen up 10-18 percent to USD 56-60 billion. The operating profit should reach USD 2.3-3.3 billion, from 1.9 billion the year before. 

For North America, revenues lifted to USD 44.12 billion from 37.30 million, with the operating profit rising to 2.251 billion from 1.69 billion. At International, revenues went higher to 20.82 billion from 18.04 billion, and the net loss narrowed to 642 million from a loss of 919 million. At AWS, sales leaped to USD 7.43 billion from 5.11 billion and the operating profit to USD 2.12 billion from 1.35 billion.

For the full year, group revenues increased 31 percent to USD 232.9 billion, the operating profit went higher to USD 12.4 billion from 4.1 billion and the net profit lifted to 10.1 billion or USD 20.14 per diluted share, from 3.0 billion and 6.15 per share.
