Amazon is working on a a pair of smart glasses integrating its digital assistant Alexa, people familiar with the matter told the Financial Times. The glasses would look similar to a normal pair of spectacles and connect wirelessly to a smartphone for internet access. A bone conduction system would allow the user to hear Alexa without having to wear headphones.
According to the report, Amazon is also working on expanding the use of Alexa in the home. It's developing a home security camera system that would integrate with its Echo smart speaker. The connected camera would provide home security as well as tie in with Amazon's e-commerce business, by allowing users to check if orders had been delivered to their home.
One or both of these products could launch before year-end, as well as updates to existing Echo products, the sources said. Amazon declined to comment.
