Amazon's Ligue 1 football channel debuts on French screens

French football fans have been able to watch the first match aired on Amazon's new Ligue 1 channel, which has been named "Le pass Ligue 1". As announced in July, the service is priced at EUR 12.99/month on top of Amazon's Prime Video subscription. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial, with no minimum contract required. 

The channel is available on the Prime Video app via the IPTV platforms of the country's four main broadband operators (Bouygues Telecom, Free, Orange, and SFR), as well as via games consoles (PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox One), smart TVs, Google Chromecast, Apple TV 4K and Apple TV. It can also be viewed on small-screen devices using the latest version of the Prime Video app, or on the web browser.

After testing the service, Numerama described the debut as a success in terms of HD image and sound quality, while also praising the fluidity of the user interface for the new football section of the app.

Amazon Prime Video's Ligue 1 pass gains popularity in Q4 – study

French football fans accessing 'Le pass Ligue 1' on Amazon Prime Video have grown in number in the fourth quarter of 2021, representing 6.0 percent of the country's population in December, up from 4.7 percent in September. The finding comes from "Barometre OTT", a survey of nearly 3,800 respondents (aged 15+) carried out by NPA Conseil and Harris Interactive. The latter estimate that 'Le pass Ligue 1' closed 2021 with 1.8 million subscriptions, representing 25 percent of Amazon Prime Video users.

French broadcaster TF1 to air match highlights from Amazon's Ligue 1 football channel

TF1, part of French conglomerate Bouygues, said that its Telefoot programme will air Ligue 1 match highlights starting from 24 October, following a distribution agreement with Amazon Prime Video. The deal covers the current 2021/2022 football season for the latest games, along with archive content.

French operator SFR has announced the availability of a TV package bundling Amazon Prime, BeIN Sport and RMC Sport for EUR 24 per month. Subscribers can add Amazon's EUR 12.99 football channel (Le Pass Ligue 1) to complete the bundle, bringing the total monthly cost to EUR 36.99 with a twelve-month contract. Without BeIN Sport (worth EUR 14.99/month), SFR fixed and mobile subscribers can opt for a combination of Amazon Prime and RMC Sport for EUR 14/month.

Canal Plus stops distributing Altice France's RMC Sport

French pay-TV operator Canal Plus will no longer distribute Altice's RMC Sport channels as part of its content offering, reports Media Sportif. The development emerged after the broadcaster started informing satellite subscribers of the change, and has since been confirmed via its Twitter customer support service.

French football sees escalation in legal actions over Ligue 1 broadcasting rights

The commercial court of Nanterre has ruled that Canal Plus has the right to suspend its sublicense contract with BeIN Sports, under which the French broadcaster has been offering football fans 28 of the 38 best Ligue 1 matches per season. As reported by Les Echos, the decision has sparked new tensions between BeIN Sports and French football governing body LFP, which are now set to take legal action against each other.

Amazon's Ligue 1 channel to cost EUR 13/month on top of Prime Video subscription

French football fans will be able to subscribe to Amazon's new "Prime Video Ligue 1" channel for EUR 12.99/month, with no minimum contract required. This is in addition to the cost of the Amazon Prime service, currently priced at EUR 49 per year (or EUR 5.99/month), with a customer base of around 10 million in France, according to the local press. The channel will go live on 01 August and will air 302 Ligue 1 matches per season.
