America Movil FTTH rollout to cost USD 50 bln – report

America Movil's five-year plan to roll out FTTH cables across Latin America is set to create a 500,000 km network costing a total of USD 50 billion, reports El Economista. The ultimate aim of the strategy is to strengthen the network to increase the residential services on offer, starting with pay-TV, before AT&T enters the Mexican market through its subsidiaries Iusacell and Nextel. In Mexico alone, the fibre infrastructure of America Movil's fixed line unit Telmex currently exceeds 194,000 km.
