Android grows China market share to over 80%

Google's Android OS increased its share of smartphone sales in China to 81.1 percent in the three months to September, according to Kantar Worldpanel. That's up from 66.5 percent a year earlier. Apple's iOS was a distant second at 13.8 percent, and Microsoft's Windows had just 2.5 percent of the market. Kantar said domestic manufacturers were leading the growth in smartphones in China and accounted for an estimated 44 percent of smartphone sales in the period, up from 30 percent a year ago. Kantar estimates that Chinese consumers in urban areas can spend up to 70 percent of their monthly

As the founder of Gadgetlesstech, an online retailer of Chinese Smartphones and tablets I can attest to this fact first hand as we have seen a rise of nearly 50% YTD. My thoughts are that 2014 will be an even better year as mediatek is planning to release a LTE SoC.
