Android, iOS-powered smartphones expand market share in Q1

Smartphones powered by the Android and iOS mobile OS accounted for more than eight out of ten smartphones shipped in the first quarter, according to a study by IDC. The mobile OS held shares of 59 percent and 23 percent respectively of the 152.3 million smartphones shipped in first quarter. During the first quarter of 2011, the two OS held a combined share of 54.4 percent. Android finished the quarter as the overall leader among the mobile OS, accounting for more than half of all smartphone shipments.
