Apple announced that it generated over USD 300 million in sales on its App Store on New Year’s Day, a new single-day record and 25 percent up compared to 01 January 2017. The figure culminated a record-breaking 7-day period starting on Christmas Eve, which saw Apple rake in USD 890 million in revenue from App Store purchases or downloaded apps.
The company added that iOS developers earned USD 26.5 billion in 2017, a 30 percent year on year increase, attributed in part to a redesigned App Store. In total, developers have earned over USD 86 billion since the App Store launched in July 2008.
