Apple agrees to change Japan carrier contracts after FTC pricing probe

Apple has agreed to change its contracts with Japanese mobile operators following an investigation by Japan's Fair Trade Commission. The regulator said it agreed to close an investigation into whether Apple had restricted the business practices of the operators Softbank, NTT Docomo and KDDI.

The investigation centred on four issues: the number of iPhones the three MNOs could order Apple Japan, the types of service plans they could offer with iPhones, iPhone trade-ins by the operators' customers, and the subsidies offered by the operators on iPhones.

Apple told the FTC that it would amend part of the carrier agreements, and the regulator approved the changes. The FTC did not provide further details on the changes.
