Apple awarded patent for TV remote with Touch ID

Friday 24 July 2015 | 18:10 CET | News
Apple has been granted a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office for an Apple TV remote with integrated Touch ID sensor, reports UK newspaper 'The Telegraph'. This will allow users to enter TV passwords, control connected devices or create personalised profiles using their biometric data. The patent was filed in January 2014. Apple originally rolled out Touch ID fingerprint scanning with the iPhone 5s, with the technology then extended to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. The Touch ID technology has also been used to verify payments made through Apple Pay.
