Apple iPhone sales slow to 26 mln in June quarter
Apple reported revenues of USD 35.0 billion for its fiscal third quarter ended 30 June, up from USD 28.6 billion a year earlier. Net profit improved to USD 8.8 billion or USD 9.32 per share, from USD 7.3 billion or USD 7.79 per share. Results were ahead of its earlier guidance for revenues of USD 34 billion and EPS of USD 8.68. The company confirmed it will pay an interim dividend, of USD 2.65 per share, next month. The company sold 26.0 million iPhones in the quarter, up 28 percent from the year-ago quarter, but down from 35.1 million in the previous quarter, as consumers held off in anticipation of a new iPhone later this year. The company confirmed it will launch a new version of its mobile operating system, iOS 6, this autumn. The new iPad 3 helped propel tablet sales 84 percent higher to 17.0 million in the three months to June. Mac computer sales were up just 2 percent, to 4.0 million, while iPod sales fell 10 percent to 6.8 million. For fiscal Q4, Apple forecast sales of USD 34.0 billion and EPS of USD 7.65.
