Apple grows quarterly iPhone sales 58%
Apple reported a 58 percent increase in iPhone shipments in its fiscal fourth quarter to 29 September, selling 26.9 million of the smartphones. iPad sales rose by 26 percent to 14.0 million units, and Mac sales were up 1 percent to 4.9 million, while iPod sales fell 19 percent to 5.3 million. Strong sales of the new iPhone helped the company grow quarterly revenues to USD 36.0 billion from USD 28.3 billion in the year-earlier period, better than its earlier forecast of USD 34.0 billion. Net profit increased to USD 8.2 billion or USD 8.67 per diluted share, from USD 6.6 billion or USD 7.05 per share, also ahead of guidance for EPS of USD 7.65. Apple will pay a dividend of USD 2.65 per share, after operating cash flow of over USD 50 billion in the past year. For fiscal Q1, the company forecast revenue of about USD 52 billion and diluted EPS at USD 11.75.
