Apple wins USD 1 bln in damages in Samsung patent suit

A jury in the US has awarded Apple USD 1 billion in damages for patent infringement by Samsung. The California jury found that Samsung "willfully" infringed three of Apple's software patents with its tablets and two with its smartphones. This included the patented appearance and features of the iPhone, such as its "rubberbanding" scrolling, sleek glass front and grid of colourful, round-cornered apps. In addition, Apple won its claim of violations of so-called trade dress, or how a product looks. The jury rejected all of Samsung's patent claims against Apple. Samsung told Bloomberg news
