Judge rejects Apple request for higher damages from Samsung

A US judge has rejected Samsung's request for a new trial in the patent case brought by Apple, which awarded Apple USD 1 billion in damages. Judge Lucy Koh of the federal court in California also decided to not increase the damages award, but didn't set a final amount for damages, the Wall Street Journal reports. She reaffirmed the jury's finding that Samsung violated several of Apple's patents for technology used in smartphones and tablets, but said it was not willful infringement. The original jury ruling last August found that Samsung violated six Apple patents and that Apple violated none
