Apple sales surge in Italy at expense of Windows Phone

Sales of iOS-powered handsets surged in Italy in the run up to Christmas, above all at the expense of phones running the Windows Phone OS. The latest data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech revealed that Apple's iOS increased its market share by some 6.0 percent year-on-year to 17.0 percent, due above all to the demand for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones. Google's Android OS accounted for 68.0 percent of the handsets sold in Italy, virtually unchanged compared to the year-earlier period but down nearly 8 percent from its June peak of 75.9 percent.
