Apple, Samsung patent suit opens in California

Apple's patent-infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics will open in US federal court in California on 30 July, with the selection of a jury to consider the smartphone dispute. Judge Lucy Koh in San Jose is presiding over the trial. Samsung has countersued and will present claims that Apple is infringing two patents covering mobile-technology standards and three utility patents. Samsung is demanding royalties of as much as 2.4 percent for each device sold, according to a court filing reported by Bloomberg.
