Apple store tops overs 15 bln app downloads
Apple announced the milestone of over 15 billion apps downloaded from its App Store. More than 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users worldwide have downloaded an app from the store, which now offers more than 425,000 apps, including over 100,000 native iPad apps. Apple said it has paid out over USD 2.5 billion to app developers since the store was launched three years ago.

BlackBerry App World passes 1 billion apps downloaded

The BlackBerry App World has passed 1 billion apps downloaded. The portal is now available in over 100 countries and generates an average 3 million downloads per day, Research In Motion said in a posting on its developers blog. The company will soon release BlackBerry App World 3.0 beta. The app store was first launched two years ago.

Apple tells GetJar to drop app store name

A law firm representing Apple sent a cease-and-desist letter to app store operator GetJar. According to the letter reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and dated 22 June, lawyers from New York's Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton requested that GetJar stop using "App Store" on its website and elsewhere, and refrain from using the term in the future. Ruim 15 miljard apps zijn er gedownload door bezitters van een iPhone, iPad of iPod touch sinds de lancering van de App Store drie jaar geleden. In totaal zijn er mondiaal ruim 200 miljoen bezitters van een iPhone, iPad en iPod touch. In drie jaar tijd is het aantal apps volgens Apple gegroeid naar 425.000. Ruim 100.000 daarvan zijn speciaal voor de iPad. Apple heeft ontwikkelaars tot nu toe 2,5 miljard dollar betaald. Het bedrijf vraagt onwikkelaars om 30 procent van hun verdiensten.

Apple loses bid for injunction against Amazon app store

A US judge denied Apple's attempt to quickly stop online retailer Amazon.com from using the App Store name, Reuters reports citing a court document.
