Apple quarterly iPhone sales up 142% to 20.3 mln units
Apple reported revenues for its fiscal third quarter to 25 June of USD 28.57 billion, nearly double the USD 15.70 billion a year earlier. Net profit rose to USD 7.31 billion or USD 7.79 per diluted share, from USD 3.25 billion or USD 3.51 per share in the year-ago quarter. The gross margin was 41.7 percent versus 39.1 percent a year earlier, while international sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter's revenue. Apple said it sold 20.34 million iPhones in the quarter, an increase of 142 percent year-on-year. iPad sales rose 183 percent to 9.25 million units. The company also saw Mac sales grow 14 percent to 3.95 million units, while iPod sales fell 20 percent from a year ago to 7.54 million. CEO Steve Jobs said it was Apple's "best quarter ever", and the company is now focused on the planned launch later this year of iOS 5 and iCloud. For fiscal Q4, the company forecast revenues of around USD 25 billion and diluted EPS of USD 5.50.
