Apple to launch e-book service in Japan in January

Apple will begin selling e-books in Japan from this month. The company has reached content agreements with major publishers, including Kodansha, Shogakukan, and Kadokawa Group, the Nikkei reports. The company tried to open an e-book store in 2010 to coincide with the introduction of the iPad, but negotiations with Japanese publishers stalled stopping Apple from actually launching an e-book service. Other US companies such as Amazon and Google opened e-book stores in the country last year.
