Arcep gives green light to first local fibre project under AMEL rules

Monday 25 March 2019 | 11:06 CET | News
French telecom authority Arcep has given the government its first opinion on a call for expressions of commitment at local level, known as AMEL (Appels a Manifestation d'Engagements Locaux), publishing a positive assessment of the project. Unveiled at the end of 2017, the AMEL procedure was introduced to help local authorities attract private investment in areas that had been previously earmarked for public initiative fibre networks. While several AMEL agreements have already been negotiated, they all need to receive Arcep's support, as well as government authorisation.
