Arcep opens tender for additional 3G spectrum

French telecommunications regulator Arcep has launched a call for applications for two 5 MHz blocks of spectrum in the 2.1 GHz band to be used for 3G mobile services. The two blocks were left over after Free Mobile secured a 3G licence in January with 5 MHz, rather than 15 MHz as originally intended. Candidates must submit bids by 11 May. They must bid at least EUR 120 million for each block. Their proposals will be assessed on their commitments to improving the hosting conditions for MVNOs and on the value of their bid.
