Arcep sets conditions for refarming 1800MHz to LTE

French telecom regulator Arcep has published its decision on refarming 1800MHz spectrum from GSM to LTE. The authority states that there is no need to limit the type of mobile technology used on these frequencies after 25 May 2016, a date established in an August 2011 decision which transposes the technological neutrality principles of a 2009 EU directive. Orange, SFR and Bouygues will lose some of their 1800MHz blocks to make room for Free Mobile, with the first three to be left with 20MHz each and Free to obtain 15MHz.
