Arcep to orchestrate end to Orange-Free roaming deal

French telecom regulator Arcep will take another look at the roaming agreement between Orange France and Free Mobile, which is due to end in areas of high population density by the end of 2017, the authority's new chairman, Sebastien Soriano, told Le Figaro. Arcep will also consider the network sharing deal between Bouygues Telecom and Numericable-SFR. Soriano described roaming deals as a "patch" to enable the entry of a fourth operator, Free Mobile, "but if roaming becomes a drug of substitution, it isn't good." The idea is for networks to be shared in dense areas and shared in less dense areas. New legislation will be debated by the Senate and Arcep will open discussions with Orange and Free to organise the end of their roaming deal. Soriano said he had no preconceptions about the timeframe, but that it would be coherent and feasible.
