Arcep to regain power to fine operators at end-February

French telecom regulator Arcep will regain its powers of sanction, which it lost last July, digital economy minister Fleur Pellerin announced at the authority's New Year's wishes event of 27 January. The government will also play a more active policy role in future spectrum licensing, notably with respect to investment and job creation. She said the government wants to strengthen Arcep's role as an independent regulator by 'rebalancing' its relationship with it. An executive order will be issued to enable Arcep to regain its power to fine companies that break regulations from the end of
