Argentina's new communications ministry targets media law

Oscar Aguad, head of Argentina's newly-created communications ministry, has announced that the government wants to scrap the country's controversial Media Law, which prohibits telecoms operators from owning TV channels. "The regulation of the Media Law isn't going to survive" under the current government, said Aguad, according to Prensa Latina. The move is a clear departure from the policies of president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and could lead to the approval of media conglomerate Clarin's proposed takeover of Nextel Argentina.
