Arm partners ship record 7.3 billion Arm-based chips in Q4 2020

Arm partners shipped a record 7.3 billion Arm-based chips in Q4 2020, up 22 percent year-on-year, equal to over 900 chips per second and 70 million chips per day.

Arm partners shipped a total of 25 billion Arm-based chips in 2020, up 13 percent from 2019, boosting total deployment of Arm-based chips to over 190 billion units to date. Arm signed a total of 162 licences in FY 2020 with 104 different customers, with over half of these licences signed with first-time Arm partners.

Chinese chipmaker SigmaStar hopes to raise USD 780 mln in Shanghai IPO - report

Chinese chipmaker SigmaStar is mulling an initial public offering in Shanghai that could raise at least CNY least 5 billion (USD 780 million), Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The startup is working with advisers toward a share sale on the Star board hopefully this year. The plan is not final and could still change, the anonymous sources said, adding that the company is targeting a valuation of CNY 30-50 billion.

UK govt intervenes in Arm, Nvidia deal on national security concerns

The UK government has issued a public interest intervention notice (PIIN) in relation to the proposed sale of UK-based chip designer ARM to US company Nvidia. Digital Secretary Oliver Dowden has ordered the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) to launch a 'phase one' investigation into the deal. The CMA is now inviting interested parties to comment on national security considerations in a consultation which closes on 14 May.
