Armenia agrees space for free-to-air Russian channels

Armenia and Russia plan to sign an intergovernmental agreement on terrestrial distribution of Russian TV channels in Armenia, reports Yerevan Today citing Tigran Akopyan, the head of the Armenian national broadcasting regulator. Armenia will dedicate spectrum for the channels in the capital and across the country.

Twelve Armenian broadcasters submitted applications for national frequencies, and four broadcasters applied for nine blocks in the capital city. Foreign broadcasters will be awarded space without a tender, under the international agreement.

Four Russian channels are available free to air in Armenia already. The current licences will expire on 20 January 2021.
