AT&T completes first international LTE-M data session

AT&T has completed what it believes is the world’s first international data session on LTE-M, transferring IoT data between its US and Mexico networks in Tijuana on the US-Mexican border. The test was part of LTE-M pilots completed in Tijuana, the largest city on the Baja California Peninsula and a key manufacturing, financial and industrial centre, and Puebla in central Mexico over the summer. Puebla was selected due to its status as an industrial and technology hub that hosts the automobile industry, said AT&T, adding that the tests were a big step toward creating a North American footprint, delivering the same consistent LTE-M experience across the US and in Mexico.

In its statement the company reaffirmed plans for deployment of an LTE-M network across Mexico by the end of 2017. AT&T’s US LTE-M network went live across the country on the operator’s nationwide 4G network back in May.
