AT&T folds Now TV OTT service into main IP TV service

AT&T is simplifying its pay-TV services, merging the OTT service AT&T TV Now with its IPTV service AT&T TV. New customers can no longer sign up for AT&T TV Now, but the company will continue to service existing subscribers.

AT&T said customers will get more channels with AT&T TV as well as cloud storage for recordings. It's also allowing AT&T TV customers to access the service without using one of its proprietary set-top boxes and ending long-term contracts, so customers can subscribe month to month like other streaming services.

AT&T TV Now is the former DirecTV Now subscription TV service. It has been steadily losing subscribers, dropping to a total of 683,000 at the end of Q3 2020. The company is in the process of selling the DirecTV satellite business, with the latest bids reported to be worth over USD 15 billion.
