AT&T launches AT&T TV nationwide
AT&T has introduced its new live TV service, AT&T TV, nationwide, following a successful 13-market pilot. The service is different from AT&T TV Now, which was formerly DirecTV Now. AT&T said the new subscription service will provide video streaming and apps such as HBO Max (set to launch in May), all powered by Android TV, with Google Assistant voice command. The launch will be accompanied next week by a national advertising campaign.

Simple system

The service was designed to be simple and to make content more easy to access. With one remote, users can get access, from one central point, to over 5,000 apps on the Google Play Store, including the upcoming HBO Max but also sports, Netflix, YouTube, Pandora or Spotify. More apps will be added in the future. The Google Assistant service will be available to search content but also for the smart home: it will be able to change the room temperature for example, play a favourite music playlist or dim living room lights. There will also be a cloud DVR with 500 hours of storage. Finally, the AT&T TV app will let users stream content on their smartphone or tablet.

Two-year contract

The service features four packages: Entertainment, Choice, Xtra and Ultimate. Customers can bundle AT&T TV and 1 gigabit AT&T Internet for USD 39.99 per month for video and USD 39.99 per month for internet for 12 months, with a 24-month TV agreement. Without bundling the services, AT&T TV packages will start at USD 49.99 per month for the first year, with a 24-month agreement.

Prices will go up after the first year, to USD 93 for Entertainment, to USD 110 for Choice, to USD 124 for Xtra and to USD 135 for Ultimate, the Verge noted. The 1 gigabit AT&T Internet service meawhile costs USD 49.99 month for 12 months, on its own.
