AT&T launches WatchTV app for unlimited mobile customers

AT&T has confirmed plans to launch a new mobile offer bundling TV and music content acquired with its takeover of Time Warner. The new WatchTV app will offer streaming access to over 30 live TV channels, as well as over 15,000 on-demand movies and TV shows, and customers will also have an option to add premium services such as HBO, Starz or Amazon Music. Pricing details will be announced next week when the new plans launch.

The new mobile plans are AT&T Unlimited &More, which includes the WatchTV app, and AT&T Unlimited &More Premium, which allows customers to add also one premium option at no extra charge. Premium services include HBO, Cinemax, Showtime or Starz as well as music streaming services like Amazon Music Unlimited and Pandora Premium. Fans of anime and gaming can also choose VRV as their premium option. Both plans also come with a USD 15 monthly credit towards a DirecTV, DirecTV Now or U-verse TV subscription at home, and Premium subscribers will also get 15 GB of monthly data for tethering.

AT&T said it plans to offer WatchTV also as a standalone service at USD 15 per month, with more details to be announced "soon". The company already previewed the WatchTV service earlier this year, calling it a way to help return to revenue growth at its mobile division as well as target the growing demand for OTT TV services and cheaper 'skinny' bundles.
