AT&T to offer new shared mobile data plans

AT&T plans to offer new and existing customers a data sharing plan from late August. This would give users a single bucket of data to share across their smartphones, tablets and other compatible devices as well as unlimited talk, text and tethering. The new mobile share plans allows up to ten devices on each plan, one of which must be a smartphone. The cost to add a smartphone to the share plan and the price per gigabyte decrease depending on the size of the data plan purchased. The plans range from 1GB for USD 40 per month with the cost to add a smartphone USD 45, to 20GB for USD 200 per month with the cost to add a smartphone USD 30. To add other devices to the mobile share plan it is a flat rate of USD 30 per month for each basic and quick messaging phone, USD 20 per month for laptops, laptop connect cards and netbooks and USD 10 per month for tablets and gaming devices. Existing customers are not required to switch plans but may do so without a contract extension. Verizon launched similar offers for its customers last month.
