Austria allocates EUR 102 mln in subsidies to expand broadband infrastructure

The Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, which is responsible for telecommunications, has allocated subsidies of EUR 102 million to further expand the broadband network. With the funding from the Access, Backhaul, Ductwork and Connect programs, the government plans to support the expansion of the broadband infrastructure in over 219 municipalities. In total 33,000 households should receive a direct fibre-optic connection through the subsidies. In addition, educational institutions and small and medium-sized companies will be connected to the fibre-optic network.
