Austria grants first funding in Broadband Billion

A hundred Austrian communities are receiving EUR 16.8 million from the Ministry of Transport for broadband expansion, Der Standard reports. Of 130 applications, 45 were granted in Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Tyrol to receive funding from the Broadband Billion programme. The Ministry of Infrastructure provided EUR 40 million in total for the first tender for laying empty ducts. All communities that did not receive the funding will get a second chance, as a second tender is due to be launched in the autumn for funds not already implemented.
