Austrian government adopts communications security package with federal Trojan horse

On 21 February, the Austrian government adopted the so-called security package, which introduces video and audio supervision, including surveillance of encrypted communication, such as WhatsApp or Skype. According to the Minister of Interior Herbert Kickl (FPO), it was necessary to increase the subjective perception of security and to adapt to the methods used by criminals. Kickl and the Minister of Justice Josef Moser (OVP) do not see the security package as a tool for mass supervision.
