Austrian govt open to Slim taking majority Telekom stake
The Austrian government is open to America Movil holding a majority stake in Telekom Austria, reports Reuters. Speaking on ORF radio, Rudolf Kemler, head of state holding company OIAG, said it was a "secondary question" whether Carlos Slim acquired a majority stake in the company, as long as the government retained a stake of at least 25 percent. This threshold would ensure that the Austrian government's opinion is considered on major decisions. Currently, OIAG holds just over 28 percent and America Movil holds just under 27 percent.

Telekom Austria Group has been informed by Schoenherr Rechtsanwaelte that Carso Telecom, which is indirectly controlled by America Movil, has completed the transaction to purchase a total of 13.90 million shares of Telekom Austria from Inmobiliaria Carso and Control Empresarial de Capitales. The Austrian government and America Movil are still in talks about combining their respective stakes in Telekom Austria but have not yet progressed to formal negotiations, reports Reuters. Austrian state holding company OIAG will hold a meeting on 11 March to inform Telekom Austria's works council about a possible partnership with Carlos Slim that could result in a full takeover offer, reports Reuters. America Movil's investment in Telekom Austria is intended as a long-term one, Carlos Slim's son-in-law Daniel Hajj Aboumrad told website Krone.at during a visit by an Austrian trade delegation to Mexico. Hajj Aboumrad manages the stake in Telekom Austria. America Movil recently combined its investments in Telekom Austria to reach a 26.81 percent holding.

América Móvil zinspeelt op het uitbreiden van zijn belang in Telekom Austria. Dat meldt de publicatie Kronen Zeitung op basis van een interview met topman Daniel Hajj. Hoewel er geen concrete plannen zijn voor het verhogen van het aandeel in de Oostenrijkse carriers, ziet Haij de operator als belangrijke brug naar Oost-Europa. A1 expands LTE network coverage nationwide

A1 Telekom Austria is now expanding LTE network coverage to city outskirts and rural areas. Coverage has been extended to more than 200 locations nationwide, with the operator also improving indoor 4G coverage. The expansion is possible thanks to LTE 800 spectrum won in the recent auction. A1 aims to cover more than 50 percent of the population with 4G LTE by end-2014, up from 45 percent currently.

Telekom Austria Group confirms collective wage agreement

Telekom Austria announced the result of the collective bargaining agreement for its Austrian employees of the year 2014. The collective bargaining is based on the inflation rate which amounts to 2.33 percent for the period observed. As a result, the salaries of Telekom Austria Group employees will rise by 2.4 percent, with the salaries of Telekom Austria Group´s civil servants increasing by 1.55 percent.

Yesss! hikes cost of Complete tariff for new customers

The Yesss! discount mobile brand of A1 Telekom Austria has increased prices for new customers, WebStandard reports. The cost of the Yesss! Complete tariff has been increased from EUR 9.90 to EUR 14.90 per month. The tariff offers 1,500 minutes, 1,500 texts and 1.5 GB data. The price increase can be attributed to the cost of the recent auction for LTE mobile spectrum, for which A1 bid around EUR 1 billion.

Telekom Austria Ethernet products achieve MEF Certification

Telekom Austria Group's Wholesale business unit has achieved the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certification. The unit now complies with the new Carrier Ethernet 2.0 standards. Two services of the three service classes E-Line, E-LAN and E-Access were subject to scrutiny. In order to achieve CE 2.0 conformity, the services had to undergo a total of 680 tests, which were conducted in the official Iometrix, test laboratory as well as in field.
