America Movil's investment in Telekom Austria is intended as a long-term one, Carlos Slim's son-in-law Daniel Hajj Aboumrad told website Krone.at during a visit by an Austrian trade delegation to Mexico. Hajj Aboumrad manages the stake in Telekom Austria. America Movil recently combined its investments in Telekom Austria to reach a 26.81 percent holding.
Hajj Aboumrad said the commitment to Telekom Austria is an important one and it considers its anchoring within eastern Europe as valuable and promising. He said America Movil is a long-term investor and it can make a meaningful constribution through its know-how and international experience.
Krone said Hajj Aboumrad is unconcerned that its attempt to take over KPN was thwarted by the KPN Foundation, saying America Movil is not looking for fast money. Krone commented that Slim could increase its influence on Telekom Austria through a capital increase. The Austrian firm's largest shareholder is currently state holding OIAG with 28.42 percent.
