Austrian govt subsidizes broadband network expansion with EUR 800 mln

Friday 7 August 2020 | 16:27 CET | News
The Austrian government subsidised the expansion of broadband networks with EUR 800 million in 2019, the ministry of agriculture told Austria Presse Agentur. This means that more than 1 million residents in over 1,260 municipalities benefitted from public funding to receive broadband connections, it said. The government has set the goal to increase internet speeds to 1 Gbps over ten years. This would be a tenfold increase compared to the target of 100 Mbps speeds that should be reached by the end of 2020. It has published a broadband strategy that will be implemented in five steps.
