Austrian Green Party sharply criticises govt's security package

Monday 24 July 2017 | 10:46 CET | News
Austrian MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Green Party, Albert Steinhauser, has sharply criticised the government's draft security package, the "biggest over the past 20 years", only for "security populism at election time", reports Der Standard. Instead of the promise to limit supervision to messenger services such as WhatsApp, the proposed legislation in fact introduces a governmental Trojan horse, allowing surveillance of passwords, calendar data, pictures, applications, directories and personal notes, when stored in the cloud or otherwise connected to the internet.
