Austrian Interior Minister plans to scrap anonymous SIMs

Austrian Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka is planning to scrap anonymous SIM cards as they are often used by criminals, reports Die Presse. The proposal has been criticised by the organisation AKVorrat, which changed its name in December to epicenter.works, arguing introducing obligatory registration will only mean criminals switching to other means of communication, and it will primarily be the data of unblemished citizens that is gathered.
