Austrian regulator expects ten-fold increase in number of base stations for 5G

Three mobile operators in Austria currently operate a total of about 18,000 base stations, reported Der Standard. For the 5G technology, 'tens of thousands' of new base stations will be necessary. The chairman of the regulatory authority RTR Johannes Gungl expects that 5G will require ten times more base stations, but these will be much smaller and easily installed on the existing infrastructure.
