Austrian trade association calls for measures against unfair business practices by AliExpress

Austrian trade association Handelsverband has taken a close look at the rapidly growing AliExpress e-commerce platform from the view of consumer protection. It found several issues related to advertising rights legally granted to consumers as a feature of the company's offer; provisions on return of goods; counterfeit products; lack of safety compliance; and misusing the de minimis rule, under which no VAT is paid for imported products valued under EUR 22.
