Avaya gets USD 500 mln in exclusive UCaaS supplier deal with RingCentral

RingCentral and Avaya announced the closing of their strategic partnership first unveiled early in October. This will see RingCentral be the exclusive UCaaS provider for Avaya as well as invest USD 500 million in the partnership.

The Avaya Cloud Office by RingCentral will be the exclusive public Unified Communications as a Service solution marketed and sold by Avaya. Avaya Cloud Office combines RingCentral’s UCaaS platform with Avaya’s technology, services and migration capabilities to create a differentiated UCaaS offering. The companies expect to launch Avaya Cloud Office in the first quarter of calendar 2020.

RingCentral is contributing USD 500 million to its partnership with Avaya, including a USD 125 million investment of 3 percent redeemable preferred equity that is convertible at USD 16 per share and an advance of USD 375 million primarily in stock for future payments and certain licensing rights.

RingCentral will enter into a commercial agreement with Avaya Holdings to become the exclusive provider of unified communications as a service (UCaaS) products to Avaya. RingCentral and Avaya will introduce a new platform, 'Avaya Cloud Office by RingCentral' ('Avaya Cloud Office' or 'ACO'). The companies will jointly create programmes to leverage Avaya's global sales and partner network, as well as build automated technologies for customer transition to RingCentral's global UCaaS platform.

Avaya still in takeover talks but with no time-table

Avaya said that the takeover talks it hoped would be completed by mid-September are still ongoing and that it remains in advanced discussions. Reports in March said the company was considering a leveraged buy-out offer form a private equity firm. The company later confirmed it was it was considering takeover offers and that these would be completed soon.
