AVM is presenting new models of its Fritz! Box router at Anga Com in Cologne, with the first support for Docsis 3.1 on cable networks and G.fast and VDSL super vectoring on copper networks.
The Fritx! Box 6591 is the German manufacturer's first to support Docsis 3.1, which is already being rolled out in the US and some European markets and is expected to start pilots in Germany soon. With OFDM channel bundling, the new router can deliver speeds up to 6 Gbps download and 2 Gbps upload. It comes with four gigabit LAN ports and two USB 3.0 ports as well as dual-band Wi-Fi and DECT support.
The new Fritz! Box 7582 is the company's first router to support G.fast and supervectoring in Germany, delivering theoretical speeds of up to 1 Gbps on copper networks. It's also backwards compatible with VDSL vectoring, VDSL and ADSL and supports dual-band Wi-Fi, with 4x4 multi-user MIMO in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. AVM is also positioning it as a smart home hub, with a variety of control functions for the home network, media server and NAS.
In addition, AVM is previewing the next version of the Fritz! OS with new functions such as band steering for WLAN repeaters and powerline devices, dynamic uplink and a graphical overview of all connections in the home network.
