Baidu to eliminate 100 jobs from video games unit - report

Baidu will be letting go of 100 employees from its video games unit, The South China Morning Post reported, citing sources briefed on the matter. The move comes after widening losses in the third quarter and China’s ongoing crackdown in the sector. The company will also terminate services to games developed by outside studios, sources said.

The decision was announced to some employees this week, the sources said.

Baidu reported total revenues of CNY 33.1 billion (approximately USD 5.19 billion) for the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2021, which represents an increase of 9 percent year-on-year. Total revenues were RMB 124.5 billion (USD 19.54 billion) for the 12 months of 2012, increasing 16 percent year-on-year.

Cloud infrastructure services expenditure in mainland China grew by 43 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2021 to reach USD 7.2 billion. Organizations' digital transformation agendas continued to drive spending through operational workload migration and cloud-native application development, according to a report from Canalys. The study also shows that Alibaba Cloud remained the market leader in mainland China, with Huawei Cloud and Tencent Cloud battling for second and third positions.

Baidu's Q3 revenue grows 13%, net loss widens

Baidu reported total revenues of CNY 31.9 billion (approximately USD 4.95 billion) for the third quarter ended 30 September 2021, which represents an increase of 13 percent year-on-year. Net loss attributable to Baidu widened to CNY 16.6 billion, from CNY 13.6 billion in the third quarter of 2020, while diluted loss per ADS was RMB 48.18. Third-quarter net loss includes a CNY 18.9 billion non-cash, mark-to-market loss in long-term investments arising from quarterly fair-value adjustment, the company said.

Baidu appoints Luo as CFO

Baidu appointed Rong Luo as CFO, effective immediately. Rong Luo joins Baidu from TAL Education Group, an NYSE listed company, where he served as the chief financial officer since November 2014 and played several key management roles. Prior to that, Luo was the CFO of eLong Inc. from 2013 to 2014. Before that, Luo held different financial management positions at Lenovo Group and Microsoft.

Baidu's Xiaodu unit closes Series B financing at USD 5.1 bln valuation

Baidu has announced that its Xiaodu Technology unit has closed a Series B financing at a USD 5.1 billion post-money valuation. The digital voice assistant Xiaodu leverages Baidu's AI and large content and services mobile ecosystem, "to change the way hardware provides value for consumers", Baidu said. Xiaodu entered the market in 2018 with sub-CNY 100 smart speakers.

Baidu prices USD 1 billion notes offering

Baidu has priced an public offering of USD 1 billion worth of notes in total. The offering includes USD 300 million worth of 1.625 percent notes due 2027 and USD 700 million worth of 2.375 percent notes due 2031. Baidu Q2 revenues lift 20% on sharp increases at AI Cloud, profit dips on one-off investment loss

Baidu reported revenues for the second quarter at the top end of forecasts, helped by sharp increases at AI Cloud. The figure rose 20 percent from the year before to CNY 31.35 billion. The net result however went to a loss of CNY 0.6 billion from a gain the year earlier of 3.58 billion, pulled down by a fair value loss from long-term of investments of CNY 3.1 billion.
