Barcelona to launch free Wi-Fi on public transport in 2015

Barcelona city council has announced that it will invest EUR 3.6 million to extend its free public Wi-Fi network to all public buses and metro stations in 2015. Under the plans revealed by first deputy mayor Joaquim Forn, Barcelona will increase the number of public hotspots from the current figure of 664 to 1,527. Over 1,000 buses operated by the city's TMB transport operator will have internet access, as will 16 metro stations and 21 municipal markets. In addition, 220 new Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed in the city's parks and gardens, plus 35 access points in Barcelona's port area.
